Pudgy Penguin, a popular collection of 8,888 unique non-fungible tokens (NFTs), has collaborated with the American multinational retail giant Walmart to expand its reach to the United States. The alliance intends to introduce Pudgy Penguin’s line of toys across 2000 Walmart stores across the nation, with each toy providing access to the Pudgy World, a digital social platform built on the Ethereum blockchain.
David Gokhshtein, a popular media and news publication in the blockchain space, recently shared a thread on X (formerly Twitter) regarding Pudgy Penguin’s groundbreaking partnership with the retailer. According to the post, the NFT platform’s tie-up with the “retail behemoth” is “set to amplify the Pudgy brand’s visibility, potentially reaching a wider audience beyond the crypto community”.
Following the announcement of the partnership, Pudgy Penguin has exhibited an astounding surge in its volume, currently placed at the top of the prominent NFT collections, as per Nansen’s NFT Paradise. Nansen CEO Alex Svanevik took to X to provide a clear picture of the positive trajectory of Pudgy Penguin, with its volume surging past 1000 ETH in 24 hours.
Gokhshtein unveiled a unique twist in the set of NFT toys, claiming that each toy holds a “special birth certificate”. They added that the owners of the toys could access their unique Features by scanning a QR code connected to the certificate. Further, shedding light on the remarkable success of the collection’s debut last year, Gokhshtein said:
Since its debut last year, Pudgy Penguins has achieved remarkable success, with sales surpassing $400 million. Their distinct approach to marketing, utilizing social media and immersive experiences, has distinguished them in a competitive NFT landscape.
The retail company would sell a total of 26 variants of Pudgy toys including Plush Buddies, Igloo Collectibles, Clip-on Plushes, and Action Figures, while Walmart would hold some exclusive NFT toy collections. The exclusive list includes Ice Chrome and Gold Chrome figures embedded inside mystery Igloos, and a Blind Box with a surprise Clip-On Plush within.
